Skin Care Concerns in Your 30s - Monday, March 29, 2010

• Skin can become drier. The skin's ability to retain water decreases in your 30s.
  
• Loss of collagen and elastin begins, which leads to sagging. Previous exposure to UVA & UVB rays in your 20’s will worsen laxity.
  
• Sun damage accrued in the teens & 20’s will begin to come out on the face. The more tanning one has done the more dark spots and sun damage will appear. If not corrected, it will worsen.
• Women may also be concerned about Melasma, AKA, the “pregnancy mask”, which is dark pigmentation on the skin and is a result of hormonal changes during pregnancy. UV exposure will make melasma worse.

• Continue your skin care regimen, cleanse, tone, & moisturize, with the addition of an antioxidant (examples: Vitamin C, green tea, pomegranate). Now is the time to really begin looking into anti-aging products.
• Routine microderms and chemical peels should begin in the 30s. This will increase cell turnover, which begins to slow down leading to dull, uneven skin tone.
• Many women at this age start to consider Botox Cosmetic or fillers. Botox or Dysport will “freeze” the muscle and is used on forehead and between the brows.
• Dermal fillers “plump up” the skin and will fill in deep lines, especially around the mouth.
• Retin A use should continue and be used every other evening. A higher percentage will be needed.
• Use sunscreen and do not frequent tanning beds.
